Wow Wild Creatures: Biodiversity Exploration and Photography Masterclass
An online masterclass with award-winning wildlife photographer Robert Ferguson, a series of seven episodes covering biodiversity from the concrete jungle to the hidden greenery in Hong Kong
- Organization: Greenpeace East Asia
- Role: Project lead, producer
Problem
There is a lack of free online resources for the public to learn about biodiversity and conservation in Hong Kong. While the city might typically be depicted as mere skyscrapers, Hong Kong indeed has a vast greenery and countless species yet to be discovered. The project aims to boost environmental education with visual storytelling along with a school programme.
Vision
The online course aims to provide a gateway for everyone to explore nature, no matter a nature lover with just a smartphone in hand or a seasoned photographer, both can enjoy the programme and learn more about the environment. Through these engaging visual content, I hope to inspire people to protect our precious nature.
Masterclass
The course has a series of seven episodes, covering content from Hong Kong’s biodiversity overview and wildlife knowledge to photography tips and outdoor do’s and don’ts. It was filmed in multiple locations in Hong Kong, including urban parks and the woods.
Change
In just 10 months (as of April 2025), close to 5,000 participants have already enrolled in the course and kickstarted their journey of nature appreciation. It has also encouraged numerous donors to support an education programme that gifted a book on Hong Kong wildlife and species to 500 local schools.
